The experience

Alba, in full

Opened in 2023 a short drive from its famous neighbour, Alba is the Mornington Peninsula's design-led answer to mineral bathing. Its water rises from aquifers more than 500 metres down, naturally heated and classified as a sodium-chloride bicarbonate spring carrying sulphur, calcium, magnesium and potassium.

More than thirty pools thread through zones with names like The Forest, The Ridge and Southern Dunes, running a comfortable 36–41°C with 19°C plunges for contrast. The mood is calmer and more adult than the big family springs — and the accessibility is the best we have seen, with hoists, accessible pools and step-free paths throughout.

Signature: Private Terrace pools, each with its own deck.

Our verdict

4.6/ 5

“The most considered design on the Peninsula — and the most thoughtful about who can get in the water.”

The good

  • Striking contemporary architecture and planting
  • Genuinely excellent, considered accessibility
  • Private pools for couples and groups
  • A calm, grown-up atmosphere

The catch

  • Among the pricier springs, especially on weekends
  • Young plantings are still maturing
  • Wellness focus means little for boisterous family play
