The experience

Yarrangobilly, in full

At the northern end of Kosciuszko National Park, the Yarrangobilly Thermal Pool is fed by a spring rising from about a kilometre down, holding a constant 27°C year-round. It is warm rather than hot — like a heated pool — 20 metres long with a natural rock base, overflowing into a shallower wading pool for children.

The magic is the setting. In winter, steam lifts off the water while snow sits on the ridge; in summer it pairs with river walks and platypus-spotting. It is one small part of a bigger attraction — six limestone show caves, bushwalks and the historic Caves House sit in the same valley.

Signature: Warm swimming in an alpine valley, steaming in winter snow.
