Moree Artesian Aquatic Centre
The experience
Moree, in full
A key Sydney-to-Queensland stopover on the Newell Highway, Moree's aquatic centre is fed by the Great Artesian Basin — bore water that rises under natural pressure and is reputed to be around a million years old. A multi-million-dollar redevelopment turned the old bore baths into a proper facility drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors a year.
Two outdoor artesian hot pools hold a toasty 39–41°C, with a private wellness pool alongside and conventional pools, a gym and a children's waterslide for everyone else. It is a town aquatic centre rather than a luxury spa — but at a few dollars' entry for genuinely hot mineral water, it is some of the best value bathing in the country.
Signature: Million-year-old artesian water at 39–41°C for a few dollars.
