Talaroo Hot Springs
The experience
Talaroo, in full
On Ewamian Country in Far North Queensland's Gulf Savannah, Talaroo is unlike any other spring on this list. It is a travertine mound-spring complex that is Indigenous-owned and operated by the Ewamian Aboriginal Corporation, opened to the public in 2021 and accessible by guided tour only.
It is also geologically unique: the only mound springs in Australia not fed by the Great Artesian Basin. Water rises from kilometres down, heated by hot granite, surfacing at an extreme 62–68°C before being cooled into bathing pools. The Hot Springs Discovery Tour walks you along the boardwalk with an Ewamian guide and includes the communal soaking pool; private pools book separately.
Signature: Travertine terraces experienced with an Ewamian guide.
